The North Carolina Geospatial and
Technology Management Office (GTM) in cooperation with the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) has established an advisory committee to provide
strategic input, feedback and recommendations to the GTM as it develops,
prototypes, and demonstrates an approach to enhance and integrate multi-hazard
identification, risk assessment, communication, and mitigation planning. The committee consists of representatives
from federal and state agencies, local governments, universities, and the
private sector, each an expert in some aspect of natural hazard risk
management.
Specifically, GTM has formed the
advisory committee to:
1) Coordinate
with a large number of agencies and organizations that are involved with and
stakeholders in natural hazard, vulnerable systems, risk analysis, and hazard
mitigation planning to assist in identifying best available datasets and
relevant research and
2) Obtain
input and feedback on the State’s approach for enhancing multi-hazard risk
assessments that integrate with and improve upon the hazard mitigation planning
process to reduce losses of life and property.
The advisory committee is
comprised of representatives from each of the following:
- State of North Carolina;
- North Carolina Geodetic Survey;
- North Carolina Sea Grant;
- Durham County, North Carolina;
- Mecklenburg County, North Carolina;
- Pitt County, North Carolina;
- FEMA Headquarters and Region IV;
- Department of Homeland Security
Federal Protective Service (FPS);
- National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) Coastal Service Center (CSC);
- United States Army Corps of Engineers
(USACE);
- State of California;
- State of Florida;
- Center for the Study of Natural
Hazards and Disasters at University of North Carolina;
- Johns Hopkins University;
- Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI);
- University of Maryland;
- Association of State Floodplain
Managers (ASFPM); and
- Anchor Point Fire Management
